Bible Lesson: Prophecies And Their Fulfillment: Bible Prophecy: Messiah To Be Sold For 30 Pieces Of Silver.
Bible Lesson: Prophecies And Their
Fulfillment:
Bible Prophecy: Messiah To Be
Sold For 30 Pieces Of Silver.
Bible Text:
The Prophecy:
Zechariah 11:12,13 NLT
12 And I said
to them, “If you like, give me my wages, whatever I am worth; but
only if you want to.” So they counted out for my wages thirty
pieces of silver.
13 And The Lord
said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—this magnificent sum at
which they valued Me! So I took the thirty coins and threw them to
the potter in the Temple of The Lord.
The price of a slave:
Exodus 21:32 NLT
But if the ox gores a slave, either
male or female, the animal’s owner must pay the slave’s owner
thirty silver coins, and the ox must be stoned.
Prophecy Fulfillment:
Matthew 26:14,15 KJV
14 Then one of
the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said
unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver Him unto you? And
they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
Matthew 27:1-10 NLT
1 Very early in
the morning the leading priests and the elders of the people met
again to lay plans for putting Jesus to death.
2 Then they
bound Him, led Him away, and took Him to Pilate, the Roman governor.
3 When Judas,
who had betrayed Him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die,
he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver
back to the leading priests and the elders.
4 “I have
sinned,” he declared, “for I have betrayed An Innocent Man.”
“What do we care?” they retorted. “That’s your problem.”
5 Then Judas
threw the silver coins down in the Temple and went out and hanged
himself.
6 The leading
priests picked up the coins. “It wouldn’t be right to put this
money in the Temple treasury,” they said, “since it was payment
for murder.”
7 After some
discussion they finally decided to buy the potter’s field, and they
made it into a cemetery for foreigners.
8 That is why
the field is still called the Field of Blood.
9 This
fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah that says, “They took the thirty
pieces of silver— the price at which He was valued by the people of
Israel,
10 and
purchased the potter’s field, as The Lord directed. (Jeremiah
32:6-15)”
Dear friend, here is an interesting question, and one not to be
forgotten.
May a man be
full of remorse for sin, and “not,” be received by The Lord?
STOP HERE:
Discuss this at some length, and then come back and read The Bible
Answer.
What we know about
Judas.
John 6:70,71 NLT
70 Then Jesus
said, “I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.”
71 He was
speaking of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who
would later betray Him.
John 13:21-30
NLT
21 Now Jesus
was deeply troubled, and He exclaimed, “I tell you The Truth, one
of you will betray Me!”
22 The
disciples looked at each other, wondering whom He could mean.
23 The disciple
Jesus loved was sitting next to Jesus at the table.
24 Simon Peter
motioned to him to ask, “Who’s He talking about?”
25 So that
disciple leaned over to Jesus and asked, “Lord, who is it?”
26 Jesus
responded, “It is the one to whom I give the bread I dip in the
bowl.” And when he had dipped it, He gave it to Judas, son of Simon
Iscariot.
27 When Judas
had eaten the bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him,
“Hurry and do what you’re going to do.”
28 None of the
others at the table knew what Jesus meant.
29 Since Judas
was their treasurer, some thought Jesus was telling him to go and pay
for the food or to give some money to the poor.
30 So Judas
left at once, going out into the night.
Matthew 27:1-10
NLT
1 Very early in

2 Then they
bound Him, led Him away, and took Him to Pilate, the Roman governor.

It is “not,” uncommon today, that in some churches, there is
confession of sin, and willingness for receiving punishment for sin,
as to help keep one from sinning again.
Is this Christ's formula for absolution?
NO, and it never was!
Our Lord calls the sinner to “repentance,” not just
remorse, for sin!
“Is there a
difference?”
Yes, there sure is!
Matthew 9:13 KJV
But go ye and
learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I
am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance*.
*Repentance-Greek: Metanoia (Met-an-oy-ah): Reversal.
(An about face, a 180°
turn around, going in the opposite direction.)
Whereas remorse is just sorrow over sin, repentance is sorrow over
sin and a pledged to The Lord, never, through His strength, to do
that sin again, a forsaking of sin.
Some churches teach, and they will answer to The Lord, “Your
only human, your sorry you were unfaithful, but that's human nature,
you will no doubt be unfaithful again. Pray these prayers, and go
on.”
This is a, feel good, do anything, with impunity, church, and many,
many go there.
Their salvation, is a salvation of works.
Matthew 7:21-23 KJV (Jesus)
21 Not every
one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in
heaven.
22 Many will
say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in
thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy
name done many wonderful works?
23 And then
will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that
work iniquity
A
Call To Repentance:
Matthew 24:47
NLT
It was also
written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of His
name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is
forgiveness of sins for all who repent.
Luke 5:32 KJV
I came not
to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Luke 13:5 KJV (Verses 1-5)
"...except
ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luke 15:7,10 KJV
7 I say unto
you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that
repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need
no repentance.
10 Likewise, I
say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over
one sinner that repenteth.
Acts 2:38 KJV
Then Peter said
unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive
the gift of The Holy Ghost.
Acts 17:30 KJV
And the times
of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every
where to repent:
Romans 2:4 KJV
"...the
goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
II Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not
slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is
long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but
that all should come to repentance.
Revelation 3:19
KJV
As many as I
love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Dear friend, listen to the Apostle Paul....
II Corinthians
7:10 NLT
For the kind
of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and
results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of
sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in
spiritual death.
Proverbs 28:13
KJV
He that
covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and
forsaketh them shall have mercy.
May
a man be full of remorse for sin, and “not,” be received by The
Lord?
Absolutely,
for such was the story of Judas Iscariot!
Judas in his remorse, could have.....
Gone to Pilate, or the High Priest, and confessed his
sin, and ….
Gone to The Savior, repented and asked for His
forgiveness.
This Judas, did not, and why not? Because Judas was remorseful,
but “not,” repentant!
His selfish way of living, and scrounging to get all he could for
himself would always exist, because he was not repentant of that.
John 12:1-6 NLT
1 Six days
before the Passover celebration began, Jesus arrived in Bethany, the
home of Lazarus—the man he had raised from the dead.
2 A dinner was
prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among
those who ate with Him.
3 Then Mary
took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of
nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping His feet with
her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance.
4 But Judas
Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray Him, said,
5 “That
perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the
money given to the poor.”
6 Not that he
cared for the poor—he was a thief, and since he was in
charge of the disciples’ money, he often stole some for himself.
Another example of this, is the one told us by The Lord Jesus
concerning The Rich Man and Lazarus
Luke 16:19-31 KJV. Even though in the bowels of hell, the rich
man's selfish character showed through, in everything he said.
No, remorse, and saying a few prayers, or the giving of money,
etc, does “not,” absolve one from sin and its
judgment!
Who said so, Jesus said so!
II Corinthians
7:10 NLT (The Apostle Paul)
For the kind of
sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and
results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of
sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in
spiritual death.
Proverbs 28:13
KJV
He that
covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and
forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Ephesians 2:8,9
KJV
8 For by grace
are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is
The Gift Of God:
9 Not of works,
lest any man should boast.
Titus 3:5 NLT
He saved us,
not because of the righteous things we had done, but because
of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new
Life through The Holy Spirit.
Prayer:
Acts
4:12 KJV
“Neither
is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under
heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Romans
6:23 KJV
“For
the wages of sin is death; but The Gift Of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
