Bible Questions Answered:
“Are we supposed to pray for the holy spirit (Luke 11:13) to be in our lives?...”
Alex/ Barre, Vermont U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

Luke 11:13 KJV
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your Heavenly Father give The Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?

At the time of this writing, The Holy Spirit had not yet been given.

John 16:7 KJV
Nevertheless I tell you The Truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, The Comforter (God, The Holy Spirit) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.

The coming of The Holy Spirit:

Acts 2:1-4 NLT (The Holy Spirit Comes)
1 On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place.
2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting.
3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them.
4 And everyone present was filled with The Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as The Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

(These 120, experienced both the baptism and the enduement of power of The Holy Spirit.)

Since Pentecost, all those who come to The Lord, are baptized into the body of Christ, by The Holy Spirit, it is something The Lord does, and we do not need to pray for it.

“Pastor, just who says so?”

Good question, The Apostle Paul says so!

Baptized In The Spirit, And Into The Body Of Christ:

I Corinthians 12:13 KJV
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:13 ASV
For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit.

l Corinthians 12:13 Darby
For also in [the power of] one Spirit *we* have all been baptised into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bondmen or free, and have all been given to drink of one Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:13 Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition
For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, whether bond or free; and in one Spirit we have all been made to drink.

1 Corinthians 12:13 1599 Geneva Bible
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews, or Grecians, whether we be bond, or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:13 Living Bible
Each of us is a part of the one body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But the Holy Spirit has fitted us all together into one body. We have been baptized into Christ’s body by the one Spirit, and have all been given that same Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:13 Wycliffe Bible
For in one Spirit all we be baptized into one body, either Jews, either heathen, either servants, either free; and all we be filled with drink in one Spirit. [And soothly in one Spirit all we be baptized into one body, either Jews, or heathen, or servants, or free; and all we have drunk in one Spirit.]

1 Corinthians 12:13 Young's Literal Translation
for also in one Spirit we all to one body were baptized, whether Jews or Greeks, whether servants or freemen, and all into one Spirit were made to drink,

John 7:37-39 KJV (Jesus Promises Living Water)
37 On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to Me!
38 Anyone who believes in Me may come and drink! For The Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of Living Water will flow from his heart.’”
39 (When He said “Living Water,” He was speaking of The Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in Him. But The Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into His glory.)

Everyone who receives The Lord, is baptized in The Holy Spirit!

In I Corinthians 12:30 NLT, Then, the Apostle Paul, asks an all important question!

I Corinthians 12:30 NLT
Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not!

Well if the 9 gifts of The Spirit, are “not,” had by all, certainly they are “not,” the baptism of The Holy Spirit, for the baptism of The Holy Spirit,is given to all!

What then are the 9 gifts of The Holy Spirit, they are gifts of The Holy Spirit's enduing power!

Luke 24:49 KJV
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

The “Enduement of The Holy Spirit,” takes tarrying, waiting upon The Lord, and the laying on of hands of those who have received this gift.

Prayer:

James 1:17 KJV
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from The Father Of Lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Tribulation - Are We In The

Bible Questions Answered:
“Pastor, are we in the tribulation period? I hear people say that we are, what do you think?...”
Wanda/ Szczecin, West Pomeranian Voivodeship  Poland

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

It's not what men think but what saith The Lord, that counts!
And, No, we are not yet in the Tribulation period.

In Daniel  chapter  9, we have a prophetic map of future events. After Jerusalem was destroyed by Babylon (Daniel 9:25), the call was issued forth to rebuild Jerusalem.

Daniel received the prophetic information that the future was divided into 70 weeks of years, equaling some 490 years.

Four hundred and eighty three years into the future, represented some 69 prophetic weeks.

The prophetic clock started when the call was made to rebuild Jerusalem, and would run on until
the coming of the Messiah.

Daniel 9:25 NLT
Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until A Ruler—The Anointed One—comes..." (69 weeks-483 years)

The anointed One, was The Messiah, our Savior.

It was exactly 483 years, from the call to restore Jerusalem to the day of Christs triumphal ride into Jerusalem. Sixty Nine prophetic weeks had passed.

Matthew 21:1-11 NLT (Jesus’ Triumphant Entry
1 As Jesus and the disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the town of Bethphage on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead.
2 “Go into the village over there,” He said. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a donkey tied there, with its colt beside it. Untie them and bring them to Me.
3 If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will immediately let you take them.”

4 This took place to fulfill the prophecy that said,
5 “Tell the people of Jerusalem, ‘Look, your King is coming to you.
He is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.’”

6 The two disciples did as Jesus commanded.
7 They brought the donkey and the colt to Him and threw their garments over the colt, and He sat on it.

8 Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of Him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
9 Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around Him were shouting, “Praise God for The Son Of David! Blessings on The One who comes in the name of The Lord! Praise God in highest heaven!”

10 The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as He entered. “Who is this?” they asked.
11 And the crowds replied, “It’s Jesus, The Prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

What followed, we know, The Saviors death, the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.and the Jewish people dispersed into all the world.

OK, and now again the question, when is the tribulation?
From ending the 69th week up until now has been some 2,000 years. There has been a prophetic gap between the end of the 69th week ending and the coming 70th week.

When will the tribulation begin? It will begin when the prophetic clock starts once again and Daniel's 70th week begins.

What will start the 70th prophetic week? It (the Tribulation) will begin with the Anti-Christ signing a 7 year peace pact with Israel, and the rebuilding of the next temple.

Has this happened yet? No!

Daniel 9:27 NLT
The ruler (The Antichrist) will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven (7 years), but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.”

Prayer:

Psalm 20:7 KJV
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of The Lord our God.

Psalm 56:3 KJV
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

Isaiah 41:10 NKJV
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
For I know the plans I have for you,” says The Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Bible Lesson: Marks Of Godly Character Versus Marks Of Non-Christian Character: Liberality Versus Stinginess.

Bible Lesson: Marks Of Godly Character Versus Marks Of Non-Christian Character: Liberality Versus Stinginess.

Bible Texts:

Liberality:

Proverbs 11:25 KJV
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

Proverbs 11:25 NLT
The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Stinginess:

II Corinthians 9:6,7 KJV
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

II Corinthians 9:6,7 NLT
6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.
7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

The Word; Liberality:

Leviticus 25:35 KJV
And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee.

Deuteronomy 15:11 KJV
For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

Luke 10:25-37 KJV
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted Him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love The Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.
28 And He said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

Luke 12:33 KJV
Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

II Corinthians 8:1-9 NLT
1  Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in His kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia.
2 They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.

3 For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will.
4 They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem.
5 They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to The Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.

6 So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving.
7 Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.

8 I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches.

9 You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that by His poverty He could make you rich.

Philippians 4:14-18 KJV
14 Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty.

15 As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I first brought you The Good News and then traveled on from Macedonia. No other church did this.
16 Even when I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once.
17 I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness.

18 At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.

I Timothy 6:17-19 NLT
17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.
19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

James 2:14-16 NLT (Faith without Good Deeds Is Dead)
14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

The Word; Stinginess:

Proverbs 11:24 NLT
Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.

Proverbs 21:13 17 NLT
13 Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need.
17 Those who love pleasure become poor; those who love wine and luxury will never be rich.

Proverbs 23:4,5 NLT
4 Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit.
5 In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.

Proverbs 28:22,27 NLT
22 Greedy people try to get rich quick but don’t realize they’re headed for poverty.
27 Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed.

Mark 12:41-44 NLT (The Widow’s Offering)
41 Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts.
42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.

43 Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “I tell you The Truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions.
44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”

Luke 6:34-36 NLT
34 And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.
35 “Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of The Most High, for He is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.
36 You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

Luke 12:15 NLT
Then He said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

Romans 13:8 KJV
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

II Corinthians 9:6 KJV
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

I Timothy 5:8 KJV
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

I Timothy 6:6-10,17 KJV
6 But Godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in The Living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

Prayer:

Galatians 6:10 KJV
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Bible Questions Answered:
“What is meant by the scripture “For I am come to set a man at variance against his father”?...
 Henrietta/ Chicago, Illinois U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

Matthew 10:32-40 NLT
32 “Everyone who acknowledges Me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before My Father in heaven.
33 But everyone who denies Me here on earth, I will also deny before My Father in heaven.
34 “Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.
35 ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36 Your enemies will be right in your own household!’
37 “If you love your father or mother more than you love Me, you are not worthy of being Mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than Me, you are not worthy of being Mine.
38 If you refuse to take up your cross and follow Me, you are not worthy of being Mine.
39 If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for Me, you will find it.
40 “Anyone who receives you receives Me, and anyone who receives Me receives The Father who sent Me.

Our Lord was warning of the cost of discipleship.
When others hear that you have become a Christian, your friends may leave you, others may persecute you.

The Cost Of Discipleship:

Matthew 8:18-22 NLT
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around Him, He instructed His disciples to cross to the other side of the lake.
19 Then one of the teachers of religious law said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
20 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but The Son Of Man has no place even to lay His head.”
21 Another of His disciples said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.”
22 But Jesus told him, “Follow Me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead.”

Matthew 10:34-38 KJV
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
37 He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me.

Matthew 16:24-27 KJV
24 Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For The Son Of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to His works.

Mark 4:34-38 NKJV (Take Up the Cross and Follow Him)
34 When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.
36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him The Son Of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Mark 10:29-31 NLT
29 “Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for My sake and for The Good News,
30 will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.
31 But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.

Luke 9:23-26 KJV
23 And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for My sake, the same shall save it.
25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My Words, of him shall The Son Of Man be ashamed, when He shall come in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels.

Luke 14:25-33 NLT (The Cost of Being a Disciple)
25 A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them,
26 “If you want to be My disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be My disciple.
27 And if you do not carry your own cross and follow Me, you cannot be My disciple.
28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?
29 Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you.
30 They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’
31 “Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him?
32 And if he can’t, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away.
33 So you cannot become My disciple without giving up everything you own.

John 3:16-21 KJV
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of The Only Begotten Son Of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that Light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth The Light, neither cometh to The Light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth Truth cometh to The Light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

John 8:31,32 KJV
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, If ye continue in my Word, then are ye My disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know The Truth, and The Truth shall make you free.

John 12:25 KJV
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

John 13:15,35 KJV
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 16:33 KJV
These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

John 18:15-25 NLT (The World’s Hatred)
18 “If the world hates you, remember that it hated Me first.
19 The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.
20 Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted Me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to Me, they would listen to you.
21 They will do all this to you because of Me, for they have rejected The One who sent Me.
22 They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin.
23 Anyone who hates Me also hates My Father.
24 If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate Me and My Father.
25 This fulfills what is written in their Scriptures: ‘They hated Me without cause.’

Romans 8:34-39 NLT
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
36 (As The Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)
37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.
39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 12:1,2,14 KJV
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

II Corinthians 5:15,17 NLT
15 He died for everyone so that those who receive His new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

Galatians 2:20 NLT
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in The Son Of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there.

Philippians 1:21,29 KJV
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on Him, but also to suffer for His sake;

Philippians 3:7,8 KJV
7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.
8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ

I Peter 2:21 KJV
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps:

Bible Questions Answered:
“Why did the Lord object to the Pharisees praying?...”
Sheryl/ Houston, Texas  U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

Matthew 6:5 KJV
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

The Pharisees prayed many times a day, and they sought out the busiest street corners to grandstand their spiritual wares. And no doubt they received the approval and admiration of those who would stop and listen.

What Jesus had to say.....

Matthew 6:1-8 NLT (Teaching about Giving to the Needy)
1 “Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.

2 When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you The Truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.
3 But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.
4 Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

(Teaching about Prayer and Fasting)

5 “When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you The Truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.
6 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.
8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him!

The Pharisees had their reward, public attention and approval of the crowds.

6 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

Why did our Lord tell us this story, He told us so that our prayer and worship should be from the heart and not on the  platform of public approval.

Closet prayers:

Psalm 91:1 KJV
He that dwelleth in the secret place of The Most High shall abide under the shadow of The Almighty.

Bible Lesson: Marks Of Godly Character Versus Marks Of Non-Christian Character:  Knowledge Versus Ignorance.

Bible Texts:

Knowledge:

Colossians 1:10 KJV
That ye might walk worthy of The Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Ignorance:

Romans 10:1-3 KJV
1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

The Word: Knowledge:

Job 28;28 NLT
And this is what He says to all humanity: ‘The fear of The Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’”

7 The fear of The Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 2:1-11 NLT (The Benefits of Wisdom)
1 My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands.
2 Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
3 Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
4 Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear The Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.
6 For The Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
8 He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to Him.
9 Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.
11 Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.

How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver!

Hosea 4:6,7 NLT
6 My people are being destroyed because they don’t know Me. Since you priests refuse to know Me, I refuse to recognize you as My priests. Since you have forgotten The Laws of your God, I will forget to bless your children.
7 The more priests there are, the more they sin against Me. They have exchanged the glory of God for the shame of idols.

Hosea 6:6 NLT
I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know Me more than I want burnt offerings.

7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.

Colossians 1:9 NLT
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Colossians 2:2,3 NLT

3 In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

I Timothy 2:3,4 KJV
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of The Truth.

James 3:13-18 NLT (True Wisdom Comes from God)
13 If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.
14 But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up The Truth with boasting and lying.
15 For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.
16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.
18 And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

II Peter 1:5 NLT
In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,

II Peter 3:18 KJV
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

The Word; Ignorance:

So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

22 “How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded?
How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools hate knowledge?
29 For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear The Lord.

14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

I Peter 2:15 KJV
For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

James 1:5 KJV
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

  Bible Questions Answered:
“...”And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” What was this lifting up...?
Klara/ Wiesbaden, Hessen Germany

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

John 12:32 KJV
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me.

The very next verse tells us what it means....

John 12:33 KJV
This He said, signifying what death He should die.

Crucifixion:

Isaiah 53:7 KJV
He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as A Lamb to the slaughter, and as A Sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.

John 3:14-16 KJV
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must The Son Of Man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 8:28 KJV
Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up The Son Of Man, then shall ye know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father hath taught Me, I speak these things.

John 18:31,32 KJV
31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye Him, and judge Him according to your Law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which He spake, signifying what death He should die.

Being lifted up (Crucified), He bore or sins, and drew all men unto Himself.
What will you do with Jesus Christ?

I John 2:1,2 NLT
My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate who pleads our case before The Father. He is Jesus Christ, The One who is truly righteous.
2 He Himself is The Sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

Hebrews 2:9 NLT
What we do see is Jesus, who for a little while was given a position “a little lower than the angels”; and because He suffered death for us, He is now “crowned with glory and honor.” Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone.

Prayer:

I John 5:12 KJV
He that hath The Son hath life; and he that hath not The Son Of God hath not life.
