Bible Questions Answered:
“Pastor I'm not sure on this one, is it only those who refuse to come to the Lord, who are the ones who quench the spirit?...
Shelley/ -Dalton, Georgia U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

I Thessalonians 5:19 KJV
Quench* not The Spirit.

Quench-Greek: sbennumi (Sben-noo-mee): To extinguish: go out, quench.

This is a WARNING, from the Apostle Paul.

We were once lost, out on a dark ocean of sin and death, but our precious Lord, threw us a Life Line, to the ship of Salvation, God's grace and mercy.
Salvation, comes only through The Lord Jesus Christ, God The Father's one and only eternal dear Son.

The Life Line, is none other than the work of God The Holy Spirit.
If we cut the Life Line, how can we be saved? We will not be.

For more on this subject, see the following blog....

Jesus, WARNED against speaking against The Holy Spirit.

Matthew 12:30-32 KJV
30 He that is not with Me is against Me; and he that gathereth not with Me scattereth abroad.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against The Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against The Son Of Man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against The 0Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Mark 3:22-30 KJV
22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth He out devils.
23 And He called them unto Him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29 But he that shall blaspheme against The Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

Luke 12:10 KJV
And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son Of Man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against The Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

Question: Is it just the lost who grieve God The Holy Spirit?
Answer: No.

Ephesians 4:30,31 KJV
30 And grieve not The Holy Spirit Of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Ephesians 4:30,31 NLT
30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, He has identified you as His own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.

Hebrews 10:25-31 KJV
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of The Truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot The Son Of God, and hath counted The Blood Of The Covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto The Spirit Of Grace?
30 For we know Him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto Me, I will recompense, saith The Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge His people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of The Living God.

How may God's people, quench The Holy Spirit?

  • By disobeying The Word of The Lord.
  • By our refusing God's Word, and Spirit to lead and guide us.
  • By claiming the works of God, are of the devil.
  • By ingratitude.
  • By being contaminated by the world of sin.

Ephesians 5:14-16 KJV
14 Wherefore He saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee Light.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly (watchful and discreet; cautious; prudent) , not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

I Thessalonians 5:5-8 KJV
5 Ye are all the children of Light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Revelation 3:20 KJV
"Behold, I stand at the door..."

Romans 14:11,12 KJV
11 For it is written, As I live, saith The Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Dear friend, when that day comes, may it not be said of us, that we grieved The Holy Spirit Of God.

Breath On Me, Breath Of God
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.

Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will one will,
To do and to endure.

Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Till I am wholly Thine,
Until this earthly part of me
Glows with Thy fire divine.

Breathe on me, Breath of God,
So shall I never die,
But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity.

Prayer:

John 20:30,31 KJV
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is The Christ, The Son Of God; and that believing ye might have Life through His name.

Acts 2:21,38 KJV
21 “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of The Lord shall be saved.”
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive The Gift Of The Holy Ghost.
