Bible Lesson: Conversations With
Jesus: Workers Needed.
Bible Text:
John 4:31-38 KJV
31 In the mean
while His disciples prayed Him, saying, Master, eat.
32 But He said
unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Therefore
said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought Him ought to
eat?
34 Jesus saith
unto them, My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to
finish His work.
35 Say not ye,
There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say
unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are
white already to harvest.
36 And he that
reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto Life eternal: that
both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
37 And herein
is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you
to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labor: other men labored, and ye
are entered into their labors.
Bible Topic:
Harvest Time:
Exodus 23:16 KJV
And the feast
of harvest, the first fruits of thy labors, which thou hast sown in
the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the
year, when thou hast gathered in thy labors out of the field.
Psalms 85:11-13
KJV
11 Truth shall
spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from
heaven.
12 Yea, The
Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her
increase.
13
Righteousness shall go before Him; and shall set us in the way of His
steps.
Psalms
100:1-5 KJV (A Psalm of
praise.)
1 Make a
joyful noise unto The Lord, all ye lands.
2 Serve The
Lord with gladness: come before His presence with singing.
3 Know ye that
The Lord He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter into
His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be
thankful unto Him, and bless His name.
5 For The Lord
is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His Truth endureth to all
generations.
Proverbs 3:9 KJV
Honor the LORD
with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase:
Jeremiah
8:20 KJV
The harvest is
past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.
Ecclesiastes
3:1-22 KJV
1 To every
thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the
heaven:
2 A time to be
born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that
which is planted;
3 A time to
kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build
up;
4 A time to
weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to
cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to
embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to
get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to
rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to
love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 What profit
hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboreth?
10 I have seen
the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised
in it.
11 He hath made
every thing beautiful in His time: also He hath set the world in
their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh
from the beginning to the end.
12 I know that
there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in
his life.
13 And also
that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his
labor, it is the gift of God.
14 I know that,
whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it,
nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear
before Him.
15 That which
hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God
requireth that which is past.
16 And moreover
I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there;
and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
17 I said in
mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there
is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
18 I said in
mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might
manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are
beasts.
19 For that
which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing
befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have
all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for
all is vanity.
20 All go unto
one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth
the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that
goeth downward to the earth?
22 Wherefore I
perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice
in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to
see what shall be after him?
Matthew 9:37,38
KJV
37 Then saith
He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the
laborers are few;
38 Pray ye
therefore The Lord Of The Harvest, that He will send forth laborers
into His harvest.
Matthew 13:12,
30, 37-43 KJV
12 For
whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more
abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even
that he hath.
30 Let both
grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will
say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them
in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into My barn.
37 He answered
and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is The Son Of Man;
38 The field is
the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the
tares are the children of the wicked one;
39 The enemy
that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world;
and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore
the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the
end of this world.
41 The Son Of
Man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His
kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall
cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing
of teeth.
43 Then shall
the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.
Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 21:33-41 NLT (Parable of the Evil Farmers)
33 “Now
listen to another story. A certain landowner planted a vineyard,
built a wall around it, dug a pit for pressing out the grape juice,
and built a lookout tower. Then he leased the vineyard to tenant
farmers and moved to another country.
34 At the time
of the grape harvest, he sent his servants to collect his share of
the crop.
35 But the
farmers grabbed his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned
another.
36 So the
landowner sent a larger group of his servants to collect for him, but
the results were the same.
37 “Finally,
the owner sent his son, thinking, ‘Surely they will respect my
son.’
38 “But when
the tenant farmers saw his son coming, they said to one another,
‘Here comes the heir to this estate. Come on, let’s kill him and
get the estate for ourselves!’
39 So they
grabbed him, dragged him out of the vineyard, and murdered him.
40 “When the
owner of the vineyard returns,” Jesus asked, “what do you think
he will do to those farmers?”
41 The
religious leaders replied, “He will put the wicked men to a
horrible death and lease the vineyard to others who will give him his
share of the crop after each harvest.”
42 Then Jesus
asked them, “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? ‘The
Stone that the builders rejected has now become The Cornerstone. This
is The Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.’
43 I tell you,
the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation
that will produce the proper fruit.
44 Anyone who
stumbles over that Stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush
anyone it falls on.”
Mark 4:26-29 NLT
26 Jesus also
said, “The Kingdom Of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the
ground.
27 Night and
day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he
does not understand how it happens.
28 The earth
produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through,
then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens.
29 And as soon
as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a
sickle, for the harvest time has come.”
Mark 12:1-9 KJV
1 And He began
to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and
set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built
a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
2 And at the
season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive
from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.
3 And they
caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
4 And again he
sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and
wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
5 And again he
sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and
killing some.
6 Having yet
therefore one son, his well beloved, he sent him also last unto them,
saying, They will reverence my son.
7 But those
husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill
him, and the inheritance shall be ours.'
8 And they took
him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
9 What shall
therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the
husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.
Luke 6:38 KJV
Give, and it
shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken
together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with
the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you
again.
Luke 8:11 KJV
Now the parable
is this: The seed is the word of God.
Luke 10:2 KJV
Therefore said
he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few:
pray ye therefore
The Lord Of The
Harvest, that He would send forth laborers into His harvest.
John 4:35,36 KJV
35 Say not ye,
There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say
unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are
white already to harvest.
36 And he that
reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto Life eternal: that
both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
John 9:4 KJV
I must work the
works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no
man can work.
John 12:24 KJV
Verily, verily,
I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die,
it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Romans 1:13 ESV
I do not want
you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to
you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some
harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles.
I Corinthians
3:5-15 NT
5 After all,
who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through
whom you believed The Good News. Each of us did the work The Lord
gave us.
6 I planted the
seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made
it grow.
7 It’s not
important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s
important is that God makes the seed grow.
8 The one who
plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose.
And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.
9 For we are
both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s
building.
10 Because of
God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert
builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on
this foundation must be very careful.
11 For no one
can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus
Christ.
12 Anyone who
builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold,
silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw.
13 But on the
judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has
done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.
14 If the work
survives, that builder will receive a reward.
15 But if the
work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder
will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of
flames.
I Corinthians
9:10 NLT
Wasn’t He
actually speaking to us? Yes, it was written for us, so that the one
who plows and the one who threshes the grain might both expect a
share of the harvest.
II Corinthians
9:10 NLT
For God is the
one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the
same way, He will provide and increase your resources and then
produce a great harvest of generosity in you.
Galatians 6:7,9
KJV
7 Be not
deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall
he also reap.
9 And let us
not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we
faint not.
Ephesians 4:28
KJV
Let him that
stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands
the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that
needeth.
James 3:18 NLT
And those who
are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of
righteousness.
James 5:7 KJV
Be patient
therefore, brethren, unto the coming of The Lord. Behold, The
Husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long
patience for it, until He receive the early and latter rain.
Revelation
14:14-16 KJV
14 And I
looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like
unto The Son Of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His
hand a sharp sickle.
15 And another
angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him that
sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is
come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
16 And He that
sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth; and the earth was
reaped.
Bring
Them In
Hark! ’tis the Shepherd’s voice I hear,
Out in the desert dark and drear,
Calling the *sheep who’ve gone astray,
Far from the Shepherd’s fold away.
Refrain:
Bring them in, bring them in,
Bring them in from the fields of sin;
Bring them in, bring them in,
Bring the *wand’ring ones to Jesus.
Who’ll go and help this Shepherd kind,
Help Him the *wand’ring ones to find?
Who’ll bring the lost ones to the fold,
Where they’ll be sheltered from the cold?
Out in the desert hear their cry,
Out on the mountain, wild and high;
Hark! ’tis the Master, speaks to thee,
“Go, find My *sheep where’er they be.”

Prayer:
Romans 10:9, 10 KJV
9 That
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth The Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto Salvation.
II Corinthians
5:21 KJV
For He (God
The Father) hath made Him (God's
Son-Jesus Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that
we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
