Bible Texts:
Right now, is the only heaven, sinners
will ever have, and it will all come crashing down, one day.
Psalm 73:1-28 NLT (A psalm of
Asaph)
1 Truly God is good to Israel, to
those whose hearts are pure.
2 But as for me, I almost lost my
footing. My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone.
3 For I envied the
proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness.
4 They seem to live such painless
lives; their bodies are so healthy and strong.
5 They don’t have troubles like
other people; they’re not plagued with problems like everyone else.
6 They wear pride like a jeweled
necklace and clothe themselves with cruelty.
7 These fat cats have everything
their hearts could ever wish for!
8 They scoff and speak only evil; in
their pride they seek to crush others.
9 They boast against the very
heavens, and their words strut throughout the earth.
10 And so the people are dismayed
and confused, drinking in all their words.
11 “What does God know?” they
ask. “Does the Most High even know what’s happening?”
12 Look at these wicked people—
enjoying a life of ease while their riches multiply.
13 Did I keep my heart pure for
nothing? Did I keep myself innocent for no reason?
14 I get nothing but trouble all day
long every morning brings me pain.
15 If I had really spoken this way
to others, I would have been a traitor to your people.
16 So I tried to understand why the
wicked prosper. But what a difficult task it is!
17 Then I went into your sanctuary,
O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked.
18 Truly, you put them on a slippery
path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction.
19 In an instant they are destroyed,
completely swept away by terrors.
20 When you arise, O Lord, you will
laugh at their silly ideas as a person laughs at dreams in the
morning.
21 Then I realized that my heart was
bitter, and I was all torn up inside.
22 I was so foolish and ignorant—
I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.
23 Yet I still belong to you; you
hold my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
leading me to a glorious destiny.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you? I
desire you more than anything on earth.
26 My health may fail, and my spirit
may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine
forever.
27 Those who desert Him will perish,
for you destroy those who abandon you.
28 But as for me, how good it is to
be near God! I have made The Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will
tell everyone about the wonderful things you do.
Envy is a sin, for
It is dissatisfaction, in face, of all the blessings our Lords, daily
loads us with.
Psalm 68:19 KJV
Blessed be The Lord, who daily
loadeth us with benefits, even The God Of Our Salvation. Selah.
Psalm 103:2 KJV
Bless The Lord, O my soul, and
forget not all His benefits:
Psalm 116:12 KJV
What shall I render unto The Lord
for all His benefits toward me?
Envy:
Proverbs 3:31
KJV
Envy thou not the oppressor, and
choose none of his ways.
Proverbs 23:17
KJV
Let not thine heart envy sinners:
but be thou in the fear of The Lord all the day long.
Proverbs
24:1,19,20 KJV
1 Be not thou envious against evil
men, neither desire to be with them.
19 Fret not thyself because of evil
men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:
20 For there shall be no reward to
the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
I Corinthians
13:4 KJV
Charity suffereth long, and is kind;
charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
II Corinthians
12:20 KJV
For I fear, lest, when I come, I
shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto
you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths,
strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
Galatians
5:21,26 KJV
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness,
revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have
also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not
inherit the kingdom of God.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain
glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Titus 3:3 KJV
For we ourselves also were sometimes
foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures,
living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
James 4:5 KJV
Do ye think that the scripture saith
in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Illustration:
Dwight L. Moody
once told the fable of an eagle who was envious of another
that could fly better than he could.
One day the bird
saw a sportsman with a bow and arrow and said to him, “I wish you
would bring down that eagle up there.”
The man said he
would if he had some feathers for his arrow. So the jealous eagle
pulled out one of his own feathers from his wing.
The arrow was shot,
but it didn’t quite reach the rival bird because he was flying too
high.
The first eagle
pulled out another feather, then another—until he had lost so many
feathers that he himself couldn’t fly.
The archer took
advantage of the situation, turned around, and killed the helpless
bird.
Moody said: if you
are envious of others, the one you will hurt the most by your actions
will be yourself.
Prayer:
II Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not slack concerning His
promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to
us-ward, not willing that any should
perish, but that all should come to repentance.
I John 1:8-10
KJV
8 If we say that we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and The Truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is
Faithful and Just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not
sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.
John 1;12,13 KJV
12 But as many as received Him, to
them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on His name:
13 Which were born, not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
