Jesus Had Been Faithful To God's Call, While Praying For Others.
Location: The Upper Room At

Lesson: Are We Faithful To Our
Master's Call, Ministering To All Those Around Us?
Bible Text:
John 17:1-26 KJV
1 These words spake Jesus, and
lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come;
glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given Him power over
all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as thou hast
given Him.
3 And this is life eternal, that
they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou
hast sent.
4 I have glorified thee on the
earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest Me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify thou Me
with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the
world was.
6 I have manifested thy name unto
the men which thou gavest Me out of the world: thine they were, and
thou gavest them Me; and they have kept thy word.
7 Now they have known that all
things whatsoever thou hast given Me are of thee.
8 For I have given unto them the
words which thou gavest Me; and they have received them, and have
known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that
thou didst send Me.
9 I pray for them: I pray not for
the world, but for them which thou hast given Me; for they are thine.
10 And all Mine are thine, and thine
are Mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 And now I am no more in the
world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father,
keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given Me, that they
may be one, as we are.
12 While I was with them in the
world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest Me I have
kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the
scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now come I to thee; and these
things I speak in the world, that they might have My joy fulfilled in
themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and
the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as
I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest
take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from
the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even
as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy Truth:
thy Word is Truth.
18 As thou hast sent Me into the
world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify
Myself, that they also might be sanctified through The Truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone,
but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as
thou, Father, art in Me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in
us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent Me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest
Me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in Me, that
they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that
thou hast sent Me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved Me.
24 Father, I will that they also,
whom thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold
My glory, which thou hast given Me: for thou lovedst Me before the
foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world
hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that
thou hast sent Me.
26 And I have declared unto them thy
name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved Me
may be in them, and I in them.
Countless volumes
have been written on just this one chapter.
Here is a brief
outline of chapter 17.
* Our Lord
asks The Father to glorify Him. (17:1-5)
The ambition of
Jesus was to make known The Father.
John 17:1 KJV
“...that thy Son also may glorify thee:”
Salvation
defined...John 17:3 KJV “And this is life eternal, that
they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou
hast sent.
As a Christian, God
has commissioned you!
John 17:18 KJV
As thou hast sent Me into the
world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
Matthew 28:18-20
KJV
18 And Jesus came and spake unto
them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father, and of The Son,
and of The Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you
always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mark 16:15,16
KJV
15 And He said unto them, Go ye into
all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
* Our Lord
prays for His disciples (17:6-19)
John 17:9-11,15-17 KJV
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which
thou hast given Me; for they are thine.
10 And all Mine are thine, and thine are Mine; and I am glorified
in them.
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world,
and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those
whom thou hast given Me, that they may be one, as we are.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but
that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy Word is Truth.
The Lord is our
High Priest, interceding on our behalf to The Father.
Hebrews 4:14-16
KJV
14 Seeing then that we have a great
High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus The Son Of God,
let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an High Priest
which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was
in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us
therefore come boldly unto The Throne Of Grace, that we may obtain
mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 8:1 KJV
Now of the things which we have
spoken this is the sum: We have such an High Priest, who is set on
the right hand of The Throne Of The Majesty in the heavens;
I Peter 5:7 KJV
Casting all your care upon Him; for
He careth for you.
* Our Lord
prays for all believers yet to come. (17:20-26)
John 17:20 KJV
Neither pray I for these alone, but
for them also which shall believe on Me through their word;
I Corinthians
3:5-8 KJV
5 Who then is Paul, and who is
Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as The Lord gave to
every man?
6 I have planted, Apollos watered;
but God gave the increase.
7 So then neither is he that
planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the
increase.
8 Now he that planteth and he that
watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward
according to his own labor.
That is the all
important question, are we laboring for The Master?
John 4:34-38 KJV
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is
to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four
months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your
eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth
wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that
soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
37 And herein is that saying true,
One soweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon
ye bestowed no labor: other men labored, and ye are entered into
their labors.
So many today are
distracted by earthly things, so much so that they have left their commission
and call from
The Master, but in
time that decision will only prove to be disastrous.
I John 2:15-17
KJV
15 Love not the world, neither the
things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of
The Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the
lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,
is not of The Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and
the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Our Lord was
faithful to the end, bringing The Word Of The Father, while praying
for His own.
Matthew 19:27-30
KJV
27 Then answered Peter and said unto
Him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we
have therefore?
28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily
I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration
when The Son Of Man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also
shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And every one that hath forsaken
houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or
children, or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold,
and shall inherit everlasting life.
30 But many that are first shall be
last; and the last shall be first.
Revelation
3:21,22 KJV
21 To him that overcometh will I
grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am
set down with My Father in His throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear
what The Spirit saith unto the churches.
John 13:15 KJV
For I have given you an example,
that ye should do as I have done to you.
