Bible Lesson:

In Luke 10:1-18, what is the meaning here for us?...”

Carey/ Houston, Texas

Bible Texts:

Luke 10:1-18 KJV

1 After these things The Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before His face into every city and place, whither He Himself would come.

2 Therefore said He unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore The Lord Of The Harvest, that He would send forth labourers into His harvest.

3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.

5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

6 And if The Son Of Peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The Kingdom Of God is come nigh unto you.

10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,

11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that The Kingdom Of God is come nigh unto you.

12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

13 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida!

for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. He that heareth you heareth Me; and he that despiseth you despiseth Me; and he that despiseth Me despiseth Him that sent Me.

14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.

16 He that heareth you heareth Me; and he that despiseth you despiseth Me; and he that despiseth Me despiseth Him that sent Me.

17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18 And He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

It is our Lord's concern to send out His people as witnesses.

The Word:

Matthew 28:18-20 KJV

18 Jesus came and told His disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father and The Son and The Holy Spirit.

20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Mark 16:15,16 KJV

15 And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach The Gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Luke 24:46-48 KJV

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

John 20:21 KJV|

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as My Father hath sent Me, even so send I you.

Jesus sent the tweleve and the seventy two, as a message that He was coming to their villages, and as an example for us.

Luke 10:16 KJV

He that heareth you heareth Me; and he that despiseth you despiseth Me; and he that despiseth Me despiseth Him that sent Me.

The Lord, calls His people to witness for Him, and He has given us the Power Of Attorney to use His name, when coming against the enemy.

In Luke 10:19 KJV these evil forces are called ….

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Revelation 12:9 KJV

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Revelation 20:1,2 KJV

1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

2 And he laid hold on the Dragon, that Old Serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

In Luke 10:19 KJV our Lord is talking about “serpents and scorpions,” which are spiritual enemies.

In Mark 16:15-18 KJV, Jesus, again was talking about spiritual adversaries!

Mark 16:15-18 KJV

15 And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

An Explanation:

They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;”

These are things that happen by accident or things done to them, meaning them harm.

The Word, gives us an example of this-

Acts 28:1-10 NLT (Paul on the Island of Malta)

1 Once we were safe on shore, we learned that we were on the island of Malta.

2 The people of the island were very kind to us. It was cold and rainy, so they built a fire on the shore to welcome us.

3 As Paul gathered an armful of sticks and was laying them on the fire, a poisonous snake, driven out by the heat, bit him on the hand.

4 The people of the island saw it hanging from his hand and said to each other, “A murderer, no doubt! Though he escaped the sea, justice will not permit him to live.”

5 But Paul shook off the snake into the fire and was unharmed.

6 The people waited for him to swell up or suddenly drop dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw that he wasn’t harmed, they changed their minds and decided he was a god.

7 Near the shore where we landed was an estate belonging to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us and treated us kindly for three days.

8 As it happened, Publius’s father was ill with fever and dysentery. Paul went in and prayed for him, and laying his hands on him, he healed him.

9 Then all the other sick people on the island came and were healed.

10 As a result we were showered with honors, and when the time came to sail, people supplied us with everything we would need for the trip.

Jesus, never used His power for show or to get attention!!

Matthew 4:5-7 KJV

5 Then the devil taketh Him up into the holy city, and setteth Him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto Him, If thou be The Son Of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give
His angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt The Lord thy God.

Prayer:

Matthew 9:35-38 KJV

35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching The Gospel Of The Kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

37 Then saith He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

38 Pray ye therefore The Lord Of The Harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.
