Bible Lesson: Conversations With
Jesus: Lost And Found.
Bible Text:
Luke 15:1-32 KJV
1 Then drew
near unto Him all the publicans and sinners for to hear Him.
2 And the
Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This Man receiveth sinners,
and eateth with them.
3 And He spake
this parable unto them, saying,
4 What man of
you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave
the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is
lost, until he find it?
5 And when he
hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he
cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying
unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
7 I say unto
you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that
repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no
repentance.
8 Either what
woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not
light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she
find it?
9 And when she
hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbors together,
saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
10 Likewise, I
say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over
one sinner that repenteth.
11 And He said,
A certain man had two sons:
12 And the
younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of
goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many
days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his
journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with
riotous living.
14 And when he
had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began
to be in want.
15 And he went
and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into
his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would
fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and
no man gave unto him.
17 And when he
came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have
bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise
and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned
against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no
more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired
servants.
20 And he
arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off,
his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his
neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son
said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy
sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the
father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on
him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23 And bring
hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24 For this my
son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they
began to be merry.
25 Now his
elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the
house, he heard music and dancing.
26 And he
called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 And he said
unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fated
calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was
angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and
entreated him.
29 And he
answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee,
neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou
never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon
as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with
harlots, thou hast killed for him the fated calf.
31 And he said
unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet
that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was
dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Our Lord, spoke three parables to the murmuring Pharisees and
scribes.
Murmur:
A mumbled or private expression of discontent.
Dictionary.Com
Luke 15:2 KJV
And the
Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This Man receiveth sinners,
and eateth with them.
Three parables, The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin, and The Lost Son, tell us the
person, away from The Lord Jesus, is lost.
Education, physical endurance, financial wealth, social standing,
church sacraments, age, or beauty, nothing gives one right standing
with The Lord Jesus, except repentance of sin (renunciation of sin),
and personal acceptance and confession of The Lord Jesus Christ as
the only Savior
Lost, lost, a sea of humanity today is lost, having rejected Him,
denied Him, or hated and refused Him, no difference, the out come is
all the same, lost.
The Good and loving Shepherd of souls shows how there is no to great
a distance He will go, (Calvary) for the saving of your soul. He
searches for you and pleads for you. If you open your heart to Him,
He will rejoice, carrying you into His fold of safety.
The Good Shepherd, the one who gave His life for the sheep, seeks the lost, relentlessly by His Spirit, for the one lost from His protection and care.
It was only a drachmen, ¼ of a shekel, but she had lost it. Was it
part of a dowry, or price of marriage, we are not told, but that it
was all important to her, so much so that she could not, would not rest,
till it be found.
Again, what does it speak of, can there be any wonder? Our Lord,
whether you are aware of it or not, has zealously, from the
foundations of this world, cared for your soul.
What sorrow the father must have felt, his youngest sons ambitions
concluding his father as dead. His inheritance, was all he was
interested in. Long days and nights passed, did the father weep
over his son?
Luke 19:41 KJV (Jesus, over looked Jerusalem.)
And when He was
come near, He beheld the city, and wept over it,
When the money was gone, so where the friends, and the prodigal,
found himself alone and destitute.
Why oh why Mr. Sinner can't you see that without God, you are
destitute of all the things that make life. God's presence, His joy,
His direction, His provision, His mercy and love, His peace "which
passeth all understanding."
Only after you determine to go to The Father, will you leave the pig pen
behind, and find life.
Lovingly, faithfully, longingly, The Father, waits, great is His
faithfulness!
Lamentations
3:19-25 KJV
19 Remembering
mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.
20 My soul hath
them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.
21 This I
recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of The
Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail
not.
23 They are new
every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
24 The Lord is
my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.
25 The Lord is
good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him.
The Lord Jesus who told these three stories, speaks yet to us...
Mark 8:36,37 KJV
36 For what
shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his
own soul?
37 Or what
shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Luke 15:17-24
KJV
17 And when he
came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have
bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise
and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned
against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no
more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired
servants.
20 And he
arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way
off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on
his neck, and kissed him.
There is a wonderful common denominator in these three stories and that is
that when sheep, coin, and man were found, there was rejoicing,
verses 7, 10, 24.
Luke 15:10 KJV
Likewise, I say
unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one
sinner that repenteth.
Lord,
I'm Coming Home
I’ve wandered far away from God,
Now I’m coming home;
The paths of sin too long I’ve trod,
Lord, I’m coming home.
Chorus:
Coming home, coming home,
Nevermore to roam;
Open wide Thine arms of love,
Lord, I’m coming home.
I’ve wasted many precious years,
Now I’m coming home;
I now repent with bitter tears,
Lord, I’m coming home.
I’m tired of sin and straying, Lord,
Now I’m coming home;
I’ll trust Thy love, believe Thy word,
Lord, I’m coming home.
I need His cleansing blood I know,
Now I’m coming home;
Oh, wash me whiter than the snow,
Lord, I’m coming home.
My soul is sick, my heart is sore,
Now I’m coming home;
My strength renew, my hope restore,
Lord, I’m coming home.
My only hope, my only plea,
Now I’m coming home;
That Jesus died, and died for me,
Lord, I’m coming home.

Prayer:
John 1;12,13 KJV
12 But as many as received Him, to
them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on His name:
13 Which were born, not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
