Bible Lesson: Conversations With
Jesus: Christ's Messianic Mission.
Bible Text:
Bible Topic:
Matthew 13:54-58 KJV
54 And when He
was come into His own country, He taught them in their synagogue,
insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this Man
this wisdom, and these mighty works?
55 Is not this
The Carpenter's Son? is not His mother called Mary? and His brethren,
James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56 And His
sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this Man all
these things?
57 And they
were offended in Him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not
without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58 And He did
not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Mark 6:1-6 KJV
1 And He went
out from thence, and came into His own country; and His disciples
follow Him.
2 And when the
sabbath day was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many
hearing Him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this Man these
things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto Him, that even
such mighty works are wrought by His hands?
3 Is not this
The Carpenter, The Son Of Mary, The Brother Of James, and Joses, and
of Juda, and Simon? and are not His sisters here with us? And they
were offended at Him.
4 But Jesus,
said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, but in his own
country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
5 And He could
there do no mighty work, save that He laid His hands upon a few sick
folk, and healed them.
6 And He
marveled because of their unbelief. And He went round about the
villages, teaching.
Luke 4:16-30 KJV
16 And He came
to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He
went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there
was delivered unto Him The Book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He
had opened The Book, He found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit
Of The Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach The
Gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to
preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the
blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach
the acceptable year of The Lord.
Isaiah
61:1,2 KJV
1
The Spirit Of The Lord God is upon Me; because
The
Lord hath anointed Me to preach good tidings
unto
the meek; He hath sent Me to bind up the broken
hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the
opening
of the prison to them that are bound;
2
To proclaim the acceptable year of The Lord...”
20 And He
closed The Book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down.
And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on
Him.
21 And He began
to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
22 And all bare
Him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out
of His mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's Son?
23 And He said
unto them, Ye will surely say unto Me this proverb, Physician, heal
thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in
thy country.
24 And He said,
Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
25 But I tell
you of a Truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah,
when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great
famine was throughout all the land;
26 But unto
none of them was Elijah sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon,
unto a woman that was a widow.
27 And many
lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of
them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.
28 And all they
in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with
wrath,
Our Lord's Messianic mission, was not to be as a liberating king, freeing from
Roman occupation, as the Jews so wished, but rather, The Heavenly
Father's Messianic Passover Lamb, taking away the sins of those who
would accept Him.
But the Jews refused to accept Him, as God's Son, and so Jesus did
not hold back from telling them of their rejection, as it was during
the times of Elijah and Elisha, and so God turned to the Gentiles to
show His love and care for those who would turn to Him, this the Jews
did not, want to hear.
They became incited unto great wrath....
29 And rose up, and thrust Him out of the city, and led Him unto the
brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast
Him down headlong.
30 But He passing through the midst of them went His way,
Now some would ask, why was it that our Lord, only recited ½ of
verse 2 of Isaiah 61, leaving off the last half of the verse.
Isaiah 61:1,2
KJV
1 The Spirit Of
The Lord God is upon Me; because The Lord hath anointed Me to preach
good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent Me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening
of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim
the acceptable year of The Lord, and the day of vengeance of our
God; to comfort all that mourn;
Vengeance, would not be the work of God's people, but that of God
alone!
Romans 12:19-21
KJV
19 Dearly
beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for
it is written, Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, saith The Lord.
20 Therefore if
thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so
doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not
overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Some will say, what about in the Old Testament times, God told Israel
to destroy their enemies.
At the time Israel was God's servant, His right hand, and He was
building a nation (that was to be a nation of priests).
But the people of God, rebelled, and fell into sin, and judgment.
Concerning Christians, Apostle Paul writes saying...
Romans 12:19 KJV
Dearly beloved,
avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is
written, Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, saith The Lord.
Two times, The Lord, recited from Hosea 6:6 …
Hosea 6:6 KJV
For I
desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the
knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Hosea 6:6 NLT
I want you
to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to
know Me more than I want burnt offerings.
Matthew 9:13 KJV
But go ye and
learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice:
for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Matthew 12:7 KJV
But if ye had
known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice,
ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
Our Lord's
Messianic Mission:
Isaiah 61:1,2
KJV
1 The Spirit Of
The Lord God is upon Me; because The Lord hath anointed Me to preach
good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent Me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening
of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim
the acceptable year of The Lord,
More
Like The Master
More like the Master I would ever be,
More of His meekness, more humility;
More zeal to labor, more courage to be true,
More consecration for work He bids me do.
Chorus:
Take Thou my heart, I would be Thine alone;
Take Thou my heart, and make it all Thine own;
Purge me from sin, O Lord, I now implore,
Wash me and keep me Thine forevermore.
More like the Master is my daily prayer;
More strength to carry crosses I must bear;
More earnest effort to bring His kingdom in;
More of His Spirit, the wanderer to win.
More like the Master I would live and grow;
More of His love to others I would show;
More self-denial, like His in Galilee,
More like the Master I long to ever be.

Prayer:
John 20:30,31 KJV
30 And many
other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which
are not written in this book:
31 But these
are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is The Christ, The Son
Of God; and that believing ye might have Life through His name.
Acts 2:21,38 KJV
21 “And it shall come to pass,
that whosoever shall call on the name of The Lord shall be saved.”
38 Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive The Gift Of The Holy
Ghost.
