Sinners Called Not The Righteous
Bible Questions Answered:
“Why did Jesus come to sinners and
not to righteous?”
Kannada/ Mumbai, India (Maharashtra)
Bible Answer:
Yes, there were many “religious,'
people in Jesus day. The Pharisees, Scribes, and Jews of the day that
attempted to keep all the laws of the Torah, but failed.
But Jesus did not come to these, as
much as He appealed to known sinners. He talked with them and, He ate
with them, often at their invitation.
One day......
Luke 6:37-50 NLT
36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to
have dinner with him, so Jesus went to his home and sat down to eat.
37 When a certain immoral woman from
that city heard He was eating there, she brought a beautiful
alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume.
38 Then she knelt behind Him at His
feet, weeping. Her tears fell on His feet, and she wiped them off
with her hair. Then she kept kissing His feet and putting perfume on
them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited
Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this Man were a Prophet, He
would know what kind of woman is touching Him. She’s a sinner!”
40 Then Jesus answered his thoughts.
“Simon,” He said to the Pharisee, “I have something to say to
you.” “Go ahead, Teacher,” Simon replied.
41 Then Jesus told him this story: “A
man loaned money to two people—500 pieces of silver to one and 50
pieces to the other.
42 But neither of them could repay him,
so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you
suppose loved him more after that?”
43 Simon answered, “I suppose the one
for whom he canceled the larger debt.” “That’s right,” Jesus
said.
44 Then He turned to the woman and said
to Simon, “Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your
home, you didn’t offer Me water to wash the dust from My feet, but
she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
45 You didn’t greet Me with a kiss,
but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing My
feet.
46 You neglected the courtesy of olive
oil to anoint My head, but she has anointed My feet with rare
perfume.
47 “I tell you, her sins—and
they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown Me much
love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.”
48 Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your
sins are forgiven.”
49 The men at the table said among
themselves, “Who is this Man, that He goes around forgiving sins?”
50 And Jesus said to the woman, “Your
faith has saved you; go in peace.”
The righteous of the day, the Jews, the
Pharisees, the Scribes....had rejected Jesus!
Jesus said of their religion of show,
and pomp....
Matthew 23:34,35 KJV
24 Ye blind guides, which strain at
a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25 Woe unto you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and
of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
Their religious
faith, had great outward trappings, but Jesus said....
Matthew 23:27
KJV
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed
appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones,
and of all uncleanness.
Matthew 23:5,6
KJV
5 But all their works they do for to
be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the
borders of their garments,
6 And love the uppermost rooms at
feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
Luke 16:13-15
KJV
13 No servant can serve two masters:
for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will
hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon (money).
14 And the Pharisees also, who were
covetous, heard all these things: and they derided Him.
15 And He said unto them, Ye are
they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your
hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in
the sight of God.
Their
righteousness, was only “Self-Righteousness.”
Self-Righteousness:
Defined by self, and not by God.
Psalm 14:3 KJV
They are all gone aside, they are
all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not
one.
Psalm 51:5 KJV
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Proverbs 14:12
KJV
There is a way which seemeth right
unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Proverbs 20:9
KJV
Who can say, I have made my heart
clean, I am pure from my sin?
Ecclesiastes
7:20 KJV
For there is not a just man upon
earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Isaiah 53:6 KJV
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way; and The Lord hath laid on
Him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 64:6 KJV
But we are all as an unclean thing,
and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as
a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Romans 3:10,23
KJV
10 As it is written, There is none
righteous, no, not one:
23 For all have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God;
Galatians 3:22
KJV
But the scripture hath concluded all
under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given
to them that believe.
I John 5:19 KJV
"...the whole world lieth in
wickedness.
So The Lord Jesus
turned to those who knew only too well that they were sinners in need
of help.
And they received
Him.
I Timothy 1:15
KJV (Said by the Apostle Paul, but we could write our names
there!)
This is a faithful saying, and
worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Luke 19:10 KJV
For The Son Of Man is come to seek and to save that which was
lost.
Matthew 9:10-13 KJV
10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold,
many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Him and His
disciples.
11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto His disciples,
Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
12 But when Jesus heard that, He said unto them, They that be
whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and
not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous
(Self-Righteous),
but sinners to repentance.
John 3:16-21 KJV
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world;
but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that
believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in
the name of The Only Begotten Son Of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that Light is come into the
world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds
were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth The Light, neither cometh
to The Light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth Truth cometh to The Light, that his deeds may
be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
John 8:24 KJV
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if
ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins.
John 14:6 KJV
Jesus saith...I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life: no man
cometh unto The Father, but by Me.
Do you know this wonderful King Of Kings, and Lord Of Lords, mans
only Savior?
Do not hesitate, one moment! Receive Him into your heart and life
now!
Soon, very soon He is coming to snatch away His people, from a world
headed for judgment.
I Corinthians 15:51-58 NLT
51 But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all
die, but we will all be transformed!
52 It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when
the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who
have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will
also be transformed.
53 For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will
never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal
bodies.
54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies
that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is
swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives
sin its power.
57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death
through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable.
Always work enthusiastically for
The Lord, for you know that nothing you do for The Lord is ever
useless.
