Bible Answer:
Oh how men would love to work their way
to heaven, but that simply cannot be done. Be they parishioner,
pedagogue, or prelate, none, may work their way to heaven!
Salvation, not by works (religious
or otherwise.)
Isaiah 64:6 KJV
But we are all as an unclean thing,
and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as
a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Isaiah 64:6 NLT
We are all infected and impure with
sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy
rags.
Like autumn leaves, we wither and
fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.
John 1:12,13 KJV
12 But as many as received Him, to
them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on His name:
13 Which were born, not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Romans 3:23 KJV
For the wages of sin is death; but
the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:1 KJV
Therefore being justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Romans 11:6 NLT
And since it is through God’s
kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s
grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.
Galatians 2:16,21 KJV
16 Knowing that a man is not
justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ,
even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by
the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the
works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
21 I do not frustrate the grace of
God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in
vain.
Galatians 3:11 KJV
But that no man is justified by the
law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by
faith.
Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV
8 For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should
boast.
Titus 3:4,5 KJV
4 But after that the kindness and
love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness
which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the
washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Titus 3:4,5 NLT
4 But—“When God our Savior
revealed His kindness and love,
5 He saved us, not because of the
righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed
away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy
Spirit.
Salvation a free gift:
John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should
not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 4:10 KJV
Jesus answered and said unto her, If
thou knewest The Gift Of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give
Me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given
thee living water.
Romans 3:24 KJV
Being justified freely by His grace
through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Romans 5:15 NLT
But there is a great difference
between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious Gift. For the sin of this
one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s
wonderful grace and His Gift of forgiveness to many through this
other Man, Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:23 KJV
For the wages of sin is death; but
the Gift Of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 8:32 KJV
He that spared not His own Son, but
delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely
give us all things?
Romans 11:6 NLT
And since it is through God’s
kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s
grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.
II Corinthians 9:15 KJV
Thanks be unto God for His
unspeakable Gift.
Ephesians 2:8 KJV
8 For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should
boast.
Christians redemption was complete, and accomplished on the cross of Christ.
Romans 3:24 KJV
Being justified freely by His grace
through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Ephesians 1:7 KJV
In whom we have redemption through
His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His
grace;
Colossians 1:14 KJV
In whom we have redemption through
His blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Hebrews 9:12 KJV
Neither by the blood of goats and
calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into
the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Christ's sacrifice for sin, once and
only once.
Hebrews 7:26-28 NLT
26 He is the kind of High Priest we
need because He is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been
set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor
in heaven.
27 Unlike those other high priests,
He does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for
their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus
did this once for all when He offered Himself as the
sacrifice for the people’s sins.
28 The law appointed high priests
who were limited by human weakness. But after the law was given, God
appointed His Son with an oath, and His Son has been made the perfect
High Priest forever.
Hebrews 9:24-28 NLT
24 For Christ did not enter into a
holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true
one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God
on our behalf.
25 And He did not enter heaven
to offer Himself again and again, like the high priest here
on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the
blood of an animal.
26 If that had been necessary,
Christ would have had to die again and again, ever since the world
began. But now, once for all time, He has appeared at
the end of the age to remove sin by His own death as a sacrifice.
27 And just as each person is
destined to die once and after that comes judgment,
28 so also Christ died once
for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many
people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring
salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for Him.
Hebrews 10:8-14 NLT
8 First, Christ said, “You did not
want animal sacrifices or sin offerings or burnt offerings or other
offerings for sin, nor were you pleased with them” (though they are
required by the law of Moses).
9 Then He said, “Look, I have come
to do your will.” He cancels the first covenant in order to put the
second into effect.
10 For God’s will was for us to be
made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ,
once for all time.
11 Under the old covenant, the
priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering
the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins.
12 But our High Priest offered
Himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good
for all time. Then He sat down in the place of honor at God’s
right hand.
13 There He waits until His enemies
are humbled and made a footstool under His feet.
14 For by that one offering
He forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
I Peter 3:18 KJV
For Christ also hath once
suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust, that He might
bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by
the Spirit:
