Bible Lessons- Christian Worship

Christian Worship

Psalms 29:2

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Duty of the Christian (Worship):

Psalms 96:9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before Him, all the earth.

Revelation 14:7 “...Fear God, and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.”

Family Worship:

Deuteronomy 4:5-10 (Departing words of Moses)

[5] Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
[
6] Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
[
7] For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon Him for?
[
8] And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
[
9] Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;
[
10] Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

Deuteronomy 6:5-9

[5] And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
[
6] And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
[
7] And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
[
8] And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
[
9] And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

Heart to heart Worship:

Matthew 6: 7,8 [7] But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
[
8] Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him.

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

How to Worship:

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

I Chronicles 16:29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name: bring an offering, and come before Him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Invitation to Worship:

Psalms 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.

Joy in Worship:

Psalms 84:1-4 [1] How amiable (lovely) are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!
[
2] My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
[
3] Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
[
4] Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

Psalms 100: [1] Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
[
2] Serve the LORD with gladness: come before His presence with singing.
[
3] Know ye that the LORD He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
[
4] Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.
[
5] For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.

Longing to Worship:

Psalms 84:2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

Psalms 63:11 “...the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.”

Private Worship:

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Need of Worship:

Psalms 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Public Worship:

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Acts 2:46,47 [46] And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
[
47] Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Luke 4:16 (Christ's habit was to be in the temple on the Sabbath) “And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.”

Rewards of Worship:

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Psalms 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Where to Worship:

Malachi 1:11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same My name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto My name, and a pure offering: for My name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.

I Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Who should Worship:

Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Psalms 65:2 O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.

Jesus said......

Matthew 6:1-18

[1] Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
[2] Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
[3] But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
[4] That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret Himself shall reward thee openly.
[5] And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
[6] But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
[7] But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
[8] Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him.

[9] After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
[10] Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
[11] Give us this day our daily bread.
[12] And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
[13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

[14] For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
[15] But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
[16] Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
[17] But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
[18] That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Luke 18:9-14

[9] And he (Jesus) spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
[
10] Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
[
11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
[
12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
[
13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
[
14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
